Let’s face it, relationships are hard. For some people, it’s so hard that they would instead prefer to just not date at all. Or perhaps, just not date any humans.
Way back in 2014, a Pew Research Center survey considered what life on Earth would be like in 2025, when automation and AI technology is estimated to peak. At the time Stowe Boyd, lead researcher for GigaOM Research, predicted that sex robots would be fairly common in the next decade. And now, we’re just about to see the beginnings of that trend, with what may be the most advanced sex bot yet.
Abyss Creations is responsible for the phenomenon called RealDoll, a life-sized cross between silicone doll and robot that you can have sex with. Now, the company is taking its creation a step further in its attempts to leave its customers better satisfied.
Realbotix, a subsidiary of Abyss Creations, has launched a program called Harmony AI. The smartphone app uses machine learning similar to your digital assistant, in order to learn more about you. The only difference here is that, instead of making your everyday life more convenient, Harmony AI controls your linked RealDoll to instead give your sex life a boost.
The idea is that you can setup Harmony AI alongside your RealDoll and have the system learn about you over time. You’d be able to interact with the AI using only your voice, and even have the bot memorise and respond to key facts about you, like your favourite sports teams. Basically, Abyss Creations wants to sell you the girl of your dreams, that you can design from scratch.
It’s not just deadpan conversations either, the app also lets users control the “mood” of their bots, able to switch them to act more shy, funny, talkative, or ready to jump your bones. Each of these is represented within the app as a fully customisable avatar of your faux lady love.
RealDoll is a service that’s been around for around two decades, but it’s this AI component which pushes the company to new heights. A significant step up from ‘Samantha’, the previous model that was preprogrammed with a few actions and voice lines, it’s the epitome of how the sex industry embraces and adapts technology to suit its audience.
