Apple has not mentioned explicitly which product will work with HomeKit. What is known is that lights, sensors, locks, thermostats, and window shades will be included. It sounds like existing devices will be work with HomeKit, too. The Philips Hue lighting system, for instance, will be one of the HomeKit-compatible devices. Apple is expected to release a list soon.

iCloud has not had the best track record in terms of security, even as Tim Cook has promised to fix that problem. Ironing out security issues could be one reason behind the slow rollout of Apple’s Homekit software.
