IT industry supporting earthquake survivors at fast pace
Thousands of people have lost their lives and other thousands have been injured after Kathmandu was hit by an earthquake of 7.8-magnitude on the richer scale. The tremors of earthquake were also felt in several part of India, even in Maharashtra which is thousands kilometer away from Nepal.
Rescue operations are in full swing in Nepal and countries from all over the world are lending their hand to Nepal in this hour of crisis. People from all over the globe are contributing in every possible way to re-establish normalcy in Nepal.
Channel partners, vendors or simply the whole IT industry has also come forward to rebuild earthquake hit Nepal.
Dushyant Mehta of Mediaman said, “Horrific disaster changed the life mode in minutes which needed immediate attention and support is being provided at very fast pace by everyone.” He has supported the victims by making monetary donation and he has regularly extended his support in every possible way, whenever it was required.
Viber has provided its users to call mobiles and landlines in Nepal for free using Viber Out, from any International location. This was meant for both inbound and outbound calls.
Dayashankar Sharma, spokesperson of Rajasthan Association stated, “Natural calamity is not in our hands but support is. So, Rajasthan association has planned to provide a fund of approx Rs. 1 Lakh to Nepal earthquake survivors by the end of this week.”
Bihar which is close proximity to Nepal also felt tremors. Tremors were of such high intensity that it caused some damage in districts which were close to the epicenter. Bihar association has also formed “Volunteer Team” which is planning to visit Nepal for support. The natural calamity on the whole has caused psychological disturbance which is also affecting IT business including other verticals.
Uttar Pradesh was also hit by the natural disaster. It also affected the business in the state to some extent. The calamity created fear in minds of people; markets remain closed for nearly three days. Customers and businessmen were not willing to leave their families at this fearful stage.
Channel partners are personally donating fund as well as providing support on a larger scale. Gurgaon association has sent approx., 4000 water bottles to Nepal.
Vijay Sharma, secretary of Gurgaon association said, “Victims must be facing number of challenges and a little support from everyone can give them strength to bear lose and live for what is left.”
Sagoon is undertaking numerous initiatives to help survivors in Nepal. Sagoon volunteers are providing dry food packages, clean water, blankets, flashlights and batteries to charge cell phones
Govinda Giri, founder of Sagoon, has initiated a fund raiser in America. The money generated from the fund raising will be used in providing first aid medical assistance, food packages and temporary shelters.
“It is a difficult time for Nepali everywhere. People are on the streets, suffering from rain, scared for their lives and the lives of their children, family and friends. Our efforts are focused on the ones that are left helpless and homeless. We have initiated a fund raising campaign to support these people,” said Govinda Giri.
The company has also set up an online tool,’Help Nepal’, to aid the ongoing relief program in the worst affected areas. It is a standalone online application built to deliver vital information to everyone affected by earthquake in one way or the other. Users can publish information providing their current situation, safety and any other important details.
The employees of Junglee Games have contributed one day’s worth of their salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to aid the thousands of victims affected by earthquake.
“As a company, we wish to uphold and encourage our team’s collective gesture by matching their contribution to express our empathy towards the victims in their time of need. We encourage all individuals and businesses to contribute what they can. Every drop in the bucket counts," said Ankush Gera, CEO, Junglee Games.
