E-Rickshaws and Other EVs Won't Pay for Licence Renewal

Now, the owners of E-Rickshaws and the owners of other EVs that run on chargeable batteries won't have to pay fees for renewing their registration. This is a step taken by the Central government to encourage people to use EVs and travel in E-Richshaws rather than in oil and gas fuelled vehicles.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification dated August 2, 2021 exempting battery operated vehicles from paying fees for the issuance or renewal of registration certificates, as well as the assignment of new registration marks, according to the Ministry. This is a significant boost to the country's e-mobility momentum. Since E-Rickshaws operate on chargeable batteries, this rule applies to them as well.

This move of the government has opened new doors of business growth for the IT MSMEs. Upkeep of E-Rickshaws has become cheaper and easier now with this rule. Hence, more and more people may be interested in travelling in E-Rickshaws.

The IT MSMEs can foray into reselling E-Rickshaw, which presents a cheaper, cleaner and more convenient mode of travel than the oil and gas fuelled vehicles. An E-Rickshaw comes at a very low cost, has ample space and seats for upto 6-7 people and saves the owner from the trap of rising petrol prices. Now, its registration also doesn't require any fees. This makes it even easier to operate an E-Rickshaw with all legal papers.

EVs use many kinds of Smart gadgets which tell them about the distance, charge remaining in the battery and how far a battery swapping station is. Hence, EVs offer a good reselling option to the IT resellers.

IT MSMEs can think about selling E-Rickshaw and growing business and at the same time, help the environment. This is good green tech business idea for the IT MSMEs.

Earlier there was the problem of battery that lost charge and couldn't be easily replaced. But now there are battery swapping stations where the charged battery can be obtained and non-charged battery can be desposited for charging.

Thus, this is a good, advanced tech arrangement for the traveller.
