During very initial days of his career, Mehta realized that Gadgets, Technology would become an integral part of human life. He was fascinated by Nano Technology and acknowledged its significance in business much before.
“I realized there was huge potential in India to receive so many kinds of technology and we could cater to the world. That brought me in perspective that there were lots of opportunities and space for business”, he recalls.
Mehta started his business with few of the product lines like mother boards, hard drives, floppy disk and other basic component of a PC. He started building basic blocks of motherboards. He introduced so many branded products from overseas in India and they became huge brands.
Banking on his excellent communication skills and domain knowledge, Mehta has established cordial relations with industry tycoons and brand owners worldwide.
A true ‘Memory King’
During the initial days of his entrepreneurship, Mehta understood that Storage was the basic need of business and it would rule the IT industry in the future. In a major breakthrough for Mediaman, Mehta became the first person to bring high end server hard drives from IBM in India. Mediaman got engaged with IBM and brought SCSI technology in India, which very fast speeds data transfer.
“That became the foundation of my company. We smelt the technology, which was required and made it available to so many kinds of industries”, Mehta says. As servers require additional memories, Mehta brought in Western Digital, the second largest company for hard drives.
The external drive was the new revolution in data storage. Mehta realized that India requires huge companies which could bring in innovative products out of flash technology. Mehta put his whole and sole in Micro SD, SD and USB flash drives. He brought in Transcend in India and became biggest distributor of Transcend memory devices.
“I understood that there is a space in Indian market and brought these companies directly. I brought products and technologies in India and started distributionship. Understanding that the technology is going to be a different way, we got into a different kind of business”, he says.
Mehta’s contribution in memory and storage segment begged him a title of “Memory Man”.
Contribution for Channel
Mediaman has graduated from local to national level, brought brands and technologies and made available for people. With its headquarters in Mumbai, and 40 sales offices and stock locations spread across the country, Mediaman is a powerful potent force in ICT Distribution. Mediaman caters to more than 5000 Channel Partners, Retailers, Corporate, resellers, VARs and System Integrators. He says that an amazing ecosystem has grown in IT industry over a period of time and the channels have matured and diversified across India. However, he feels that there is a need for new faces in the distribution business. Mehta looks forward to bring in his own product line and explore in areas like managing services.
Mediaman introduced some of the wonderful products based on NAND flash technology like high speed cards. Mehta says that and technology will be part of IT industry. Mehta predicts that the next 50 years belong to NAND flash technology and it has huge business potentials.
“Every one of us will be using pieces of technology emerging from electronics to the Nano to biotech technology. We will find Nanobots running in our blood and each Nanobot to be equivalent to huge supercomputers”, predicts Mehta.
