Monsoon

Finally, after a long delay, the Monsoon arrived in Delhi today and the people welcomed the first showers by coming out of their houses. After months of oppressive heat, rain feels like blessing from the skies. Fear of the failure of crops because of the delay in rains is no more. Underground levels of water in Delhi shall be replenished, where about 80% residents depend upon underground water, with the Delhi Municipal Corporation not able to supply enough water to a city of 1.9 crores population and Yamuna almost dead with industrial poison.

Implications for the IT MSMEs

Having said all this, what does the monsoon imply for the IT MSMEs, especially those that are offline? They are already beaten down by the multiple lockdowns with the prospects of more lockdowns on the horizon, considering the experts announcing the onset of the 3rd wave of Corona in September or so.

Further, they are not able to compete against the E-commerce websites. Now, with the continuous monsoon rains, the roads shall be flooded and people will be much less inclined to go out of their houses than they were earlier. Only in an emergency will they want to travel all the way to an IT products, solutions or service providers store. This means further decline of business for the offline IT MSMEs.

What Should be Done?

  • IT MSMEs must promote their online profiles to capture customers online. There's no other way for them.
  • Prominently display your updated mobile numbers and email addresses online so that your potential customers can contact you easily.
  • Products, solutions, service providers should meet their customers at their place, time and date and provide them what they want. They should not expect the customers to come to them.
  • They must ensure good quality at competitive prices. Their price range should not be more than that of E-commerce.
  • Their advantage is post-sales service. They should advertise this properly and must offer high grade post-sales services
  • They should join the E-commerce platforms. Use a modern technology to your advantage, don't look upon it as your rival.

It's high time for the IT MSMEs to act and go online and benefit from it. A business person should move with the changing times and be flexible to adopt the new technology, especially if s/he happens to be in the business of technology. Enjoy the monsoon rains by going online!
