Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new mobile app called mAadhaar that lets you carry your Aadhaar on your mobile. This means, now all your biometric and demographic information will be available on your smartphone and you don’t need to carry Aadhar card everywhere for verification and availing Aadhaar-based services.
The mAadhaar app is currently available for download on Google Play only for Android users. All you need is the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar card and a smartphone running on Android 5.0 and upper versions.
The new app comes with a biometric lock/unlock feature to secure the personal data. Once a user enables the lock system, the app remains locked till he/she chooses to either unlock it (which is temporary) or disable the locking system. It also has a “TOTP generation” (Time-Based One-Time Password) process which can be used instead of SMS-based OTP.
The app also lets you update your profile but only after successful completion of the request. To use the “mAadhaar” app, a registered mobile number is a must. In case your mobile number is not registered, visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Mobile Update End Point. You can also share your e-KYC or QR code, which has all the data for verification.
Notably, this is just a beta version of the app which means some of the features will only be applicable after subsequent updates.
