Kyndryl India recently decided to separate from IBM and grow independently as an IT services provider in India. Lingraju Sawkar, President, Kyndryl India talks to us about this.
What were the main considerations behind separating from IBM?
The separation gives Kyndryl many opportunities and freedom of action that we are all very excited about.
Kyndryl is on a clear trajectory for improved growth and margin expansion, with greater ability to partner, invest and capture new opportunities. We will have the freedom to focus on what it does best: deliver advisory, implementation, and managed services at scale across multiple technology infrastructures. This will unlock a total addressable market of $510 billion by 2024, doubling our previous reach.
We will have the freedom to broaden our ecosystem of strategic partners – including a wide range of hyperscale cloud providers, system integrators, independent software vendors, and other technology vendors from start-ups to market leaders – giving our customers access to a wider range of technologies. We will operate as a flatter, faster and more focused company, organized around high-priority customer needs and opportunities.
What is your geographical spread in India?
India is key to Kyndryl’s growth and is one of our ten core countries. We have a global talent pool of nearly 90,000, many of those talented team members are based there in India.
Kyndryl India is based in Bangalore and we have Client Innovation Centers in Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Chennai & Pune that employs a considerable percentage of our 90,000 strong global talent.
The India CIC is set to support global R&D for Kyndryl with expertise and skill sets across 6 practice areas and by engaging clients across 10 countries
What is your future expansion strategy in India?
India is extremely important to Kyndryl as both a business hub and a talent hub. In turn, Kyndryl will also play an important role in driving India’s digital economy. We already work with some of the top banks, telcos, auto-makers, and airports in India that support more than a billion people.
India is a key country to our business, we have a fantastic opportunity to support businesses of all sizes, based in India.
Our customers see us as the trusted provider of running their mission-critical systems. We plan to grow our business in India by forming new partnerships with global and local partners and working in new ways to support our customers in India where and how they need us. Our role in India is to be a trusted partner to the people and to the enterprises here that are working hard to build and extend next-generation digital infrastructure across India.
We will strengthen our portfolio for a single integrated customer engagement model that includes bringing together offering teams and service lines into six Global Practices: Cloud; Core Enterprise & zCloud; Digital Workplace; Applications, Data & AI; Security & Resiliency; and Network & Edge.
What challenges do you foresee in expanding in India in the coming years? How do you plan to resolve these challenges?
I’m very optimistic about the opportunities ahead. We are poised to power more industry transformation in the next 10 years than we’ve seen in the past hundred. The most important enterprises across every industry rely heavily on the systems we run. We don’t take this lightly. We have been very thoughtful in how we will best serve our customers and over a billion consumers in India. We have an amazing opportunity ahead at Kyndryl to create a brand that will stand apart in the market by leading with our people first. India is a key market for Kyndryl. We will continue to make the right investments to build and scale our team here, and our ecosystem partnerships, to support our client needs and business growth.
