In what could be labelled as its latest experiment, Snapchat will be involved with college reporters. Reports suggest that in the last few months, Snapchat has asked a number of college newspapers to create stories for its Discover Section.
The stories the company has asked these newspapers to make are similar to ones made by some publishers. But the difference is that these stories will unique to these colleges. According to some media reports, the company has confirmed that it already did a soft launch of this feature a few months back. The stories were even tested at Universities like UCLA, Stanford, Dartmouth, to name a few.
Reports also state that this is the first time Snapchat is testing hyper-localized stories in its Discover feed. Interestingly, these stories will only be available to watch as long as the user in the college campus.
However, these new Discover Stories are not the same as Campus Stories. Launched by Snapchat in 2014, Campus Stories are communal snaps that are captured when the user is attending a live event on the college campus. Discover Stories, on the other hand, will be created by student journalists and editors. Media reports also suggest that a number of college newspapers in US will be making stories for Snapchat's Discover section in the upcoming fall semester.
Recently, Snapchat was also in news for removing its 10-second video limit. Instead, the app introduced a new feature called as 'Multi-Snap'. The new multi-snap feature allows users to record up to six 10-second video clips continuously.
In the same update the company also introduced its Tilt Brush. The brush allows users to change the colour of a specific subject inside the image. The app can either use machine learning to highlight something, or people can use their fingers to do so. It was said that Snapchat came up with this new feature to take on the likes of Instagram.
