Sony Mobile has globally unveiled two smartphones, Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5, which offer high-performance cameras at mid-range prices.
The new Xperia M5, the successor of Xperia M4 Aqua that was launched earlier this year, has a 5-inch screen with Full HD resolution (1080p) and is water- as well as dust-resistant (IP68 certification). It is powered by the octa-core Mediatek MT6795 chipset (which is also in the HTC One ME) running at 2GHz, with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The smartphone can support microSD cards of capacities up to 200GB.
On Xperia M5's back is a 21.5MP camera with hybrid autofocus, 5X Clear Image Zoom technology, and 4K video recording. Its connectivity suite consists of 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, microUSB 2.0, and Infrared. Available in white, black, and gold colours, the new smartphone packs a 2,600mAh battery. It weighs 142 grams and measures 7.6mm in thickness.
Sony's Xperia C5 Ultra sports a 6-inch Full HD (1080p) screen with the company's Bravia Engine 2 technology and runs on the octa-core 1.7GHz Mediatek MT6752 chipset and 2GB RAM. This smartphone comes with 16GB of built-in storage and supports microSD cards of up to 200GB capacity as well.
The rear camera of Xperia C5 Ultra has a 13MP Exmor RS sensor and has connectivity options like 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and microUSB 2.0. The smartphone has a 2,930mAh battery, measures 8.7mm in thickness, weighs 187 grams, and will come in black, white and mint colours.
Both smartphones are run on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and have 13MP cameras in front; the Xperia C5 Ultra phablet also has a LED flash in front for better selfies under dark conditions.
According to Sony, the two models will be available in single- as well as dual-sim variants in select emerging markets by mid-August.
