Tata Teleservices, Tata Infotech to jointly develop wireless data applications

Tata Teleservices (TTSL) has announced its tie-up with Tata
Infotech to develop wireless data applications. The two companies
would set up a wireless application lab at IIT Bombay, which will
explore possibilities to develop new wireless products and market
various products and services in the wireless data transmission
sector.

Announcing the joint initiative, S Ramakrishnan, MD, Tata
Teleservices says, "Tata Teleservices and Tata Infotech's
decision to tap group synergies is set to benefit the customers
of both the companies. The various hi-tech wireless data
applications, jointly developed by the two companies, would
enable us to service a range of entertainment and productivity
needs of our customers."

From an end-user standpoint, Tata Teleservices and Tata
Infotech would explore and develop a range of innovative
applications -- from speech and script recognition software to
video streaming, ATM-based applications to entertainment based
mobile applications like games, news, music and ring tone
downloads, among many other things.

Teleservices and will also work with IIT Bombay towards enhancing
