Storage solutions major Western Digital expects a 20 percent growth in its consumer business segment in India this year, placing big bets on the booming smartphone sales and increasing content consumption in the country.
The company, which launched new hard drives in India under 'My passport' and 'My Book' range, said it is focussing on enhancing design elements of its products to tap into the millenial consumers.
"Over the last few years, we have seen about 20 percent growth. This is being driven by growing consumption and creation of content. I see no reason why we should not be able to continue the growth momentum," Western Digital Director (Content Solutions Business - India, Middle East and Africa) Khalid Wani told PTI.
He, however, did not disclose any financial details.
The company launched portable hard drive under the 'My passport' range in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB variants, priced between Rs 7,980 and Rs 17,140. The desktop hard drive -- My Book -- would be available in 3TB, 4TB, 6TB and 8TB variants, priced between Rs 13,050 and Rs 29,500.
"The newly reimagined design language is meant to amplify our personal connection to data. As the data use is drastically evolving and has become an integral part of our lives, we aim to focus on reiterating the importance of personalising data solutions," he said. The company, which bought flash memory specialist SanDisk last year in a USD 19 billion deal, has a team of about 600 people in its R&D unit in Bengaluru.
